May 1988, Frederick Douglas Award from the North Star Fund to Brooklyn Women’s Martial Arts for “outstanding contributions to the struggle for political, social and economic justice and for work that exemplifies the tradition of fighting for the rights of all people in the spirit of Frederick Douglas”

June 1989, the New York Women’s Foundation honored CAE for “making an outstanding contribution towards improving the quality of life and well-being of the women and girls of New York

February 1991, Susan B Anthony Award to Executive Director Annie Ellman from National Organization for Women, New York City Chapter

1991, “Stop the Violence Award” from the City of New York “in recognition of exceptional efforts which have contributed toward improving the quality of life in the City of New York”

1991, Gloria Steinem Award from the Ms. Foundation for Women to Executive Director Annie Ellman

December 1992, “Groundbreaker Award” from Educational Equity Concepts to Executive Director Annie Ellman for her “pioneering work to develop violence prevention programs—affordable, multi-racial, feminist, and disability-inclusive—that has empowered thousands to claim their right to safety”

June 1994, Mayor’s Award for Racial Harmony & Diversity from Chase Manhattan Bank to CAE “in recognition of the exemplary work to encourage improved relations among New York’s diverse racial and ethnic groups”

November 1994, Leadership Award from African Ancestral Lesbians United for Societal Change to Brenda Jones, Women’s Programs Coordinator, “for long-standing and continuous visibility in and for the lesbian community”

2002, Young Woman of Vision, Gloria Steinem Award
from the Ms. Foundation for Women to graduate from CAE’s teen women’s program “for having the courage to fight for safer streets in her community and for giving other young people the skills and self-esteem they need to protect themselves”

November 2003, Executive Director Annie Ellman honored by the Stonewall Foundation for “promoting the well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals and strengthening the LGBT community”

April 2004, Teen Program Coordinator Geleni Fontaine awarded PASEsetter Certificate Award from the Partnership for After-school Education (PASE)

CAE has been featured in a Lifetime Cable Television special about women’s strength and in a World Health Organization anti-violence video shown around the world as part of their campaign against injury and violence.

Additionally, CAE has been recognized numerous times by politicians from Brooklyn, New York City, and New York State.

May 1995, (former) State Senator Marty Markowitz honored CAE for “their outstanding commitment to making Brooklyn a safer place to live”

May 1995, (former) Manhattan Borough President Ruth Messinger honored CAE for “its indispensable work in enhancing public safety and personal dignity for all New Yorkers”

March 2000, (former) Brooklyn Borough President Howard Golden paid tribute to CAE “for educating the public about violence against women, youth and children, and empowering women to overcome this pervasive social problem”

April 2000, (former) State Senator Marty Markowitz commended CAE on the occasion of its 25th Anniversary year for “working for a world which is free from violence”

May 2004, State Assemblyperson Jim Brennan commended CAE on the occasion of its 30th Anniversary year and celebrated and recognized CAE’s noble accomplishments on behalf of all the citizens of the great Empire State.
