CAE offers this unique service for non-profit,
community-based organizations that seek to
improve the safety and well being of staff
and clients while maintaining a welcoming
and supportive environment.
The Safety Assessment process can include
any of the following: evaluation of office
and program space with recommendations for
improved environment, practical training,
consultation on policy issues, and anti-violence
analysis. This process is tailored to the
specific needs of the agencies with whom we
work.
All trainings are developed with an anti-violence
perspective that links personal and community
safety to understanding and opposing systems
of social oppression. As we strive to address
the security needs of staff and clients we
help the organization challenge bias based
on sex, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation,
gender identity, physical or developmental
ability, age, HIV / AIDS status, and socio-economic
background.
From the Department of Technical Assistance
and Program Evaluation at Bailey House (the
oldest AIDS housing and services provider
in New York City):
“This project… far surpassed
our expectations. The CAE consultant observed
many weaknesses in our security and had pragmatic,
affordable and appropriate suggestions for
resolving all of them. But the greatest value
of CAE’s work with us was their deep
understanding of the importance of maintaining
an open and welcoming environment while protecting
all who work here, learn here or seek services
here.”

The Center for Anti-Violence Education (CAE)
works with organizations and individuals across
the country seeking to develop progressive
violence-prevention programming for women
and children, lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender
communities, seniors, and people with disabilities,
among others.
During a several year collaboration with
Girls Inc., CAE created Action for Safety
tm, a national empowerment program
for girls ages 9 – 11. Over 2000 girls
at sites across the US participate in these
violence-prevention trainings annually, including
over 350 girls at 14 organizations in New
York City. CAE continues to provide the annual
training to the staff of Girls Inc. and its
affiliates.
Through Long Island University, CAE staff
annually train teachers about bullies and
other school violence issues. CAE has also
trained school conflict resolution specialists
on dealing with school violence. Other clients
focusing on youth needs have included Educational
Equity Concepts, Project Reach Youth, and
Resolving Conflict Creatively Program.
In 2002 – 2003 CAE consultants worked
with Community Access to develop and implement
two-part trainings in safety and de-escalation
skills for staff working with adults with
psychiatric disabilities. Fifty-five Community
Access staff members were trained in four
sites throughout Manhattan.
