MISSION
We work to prevent, disrupt, and heal from all forms of violence by centering the experiences and leadership of those most impacted. In community, we build pathways to safety, justice, and collective power.
PROGRAMS
Our programs are designed to meet people where they are. Whether you’re looking to build personal safety skills, support young people, or transform how your community or organization responds to harm, CAE offers flexible, trauma-informed, and community-centered options that reflect the realities that people face every day.
Gender & Social Justice
We believe that women, non-binary people, and trans people deserve freedom from violence. Founded by queer feminists, CAE has always centered the safety of those put at risk by gender-based violence. Using an intersectional lens ensures that we stay true to our roots while combating all forms of violence.
Care and Healing
We acknowledge that society normalizes violence and devalues care. We seek to interrupt cycles of violence through community and self-care practices and build safety structures that center care and well-being.
Community Safety & Violence Prevention
Our multidisciplinary programs are built on one fundamental truth: we keep each other safe. We work to create community-based safety structures outside of law enforcement, and forge communities based in social justice, connection, and liberation.

Power, Action, Change for Teens (PACT)
After graduating from a full year of active participation in CAE’s afterschool PACT program, teens can apply for paid Peer Educator Internships.
Peer Educators are high school teens who identify as girls or are gender non-conforming. As a Peer Educator, you will be an anti-violence activist, building leadership skills and becoming a role model for other young people. You will work with adult instructors to bring your violence prevention training into your communities, teaching empowerment self-defense and upstander tools in schools and youth centers across NYC.
